Aaron's Testimony

GREAT TESTIMONY AND GREAT EXAMPLE OF A "TRUE" CHRISTIAN!!!

Why Rooted?

What’s in a name? well, a lot actually. A name proclaims something - When we name something we name it not only for what it is, but also for what we hope it becomes. Our name, “Rooted YP,” is just such a name. It finds its origin in Holy scripture:

“Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the LORD, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of God dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.”
Colossians 2:6-10

Our name, taken from God’s Word, proclaims that we are a people defined by Jesus Christ and our being “rooted and built up in him.” We recognise that everyone is rooted in something (whether others recognise that or not makes no difference). We can be rooted and grounded in a specific philosophy, religious order, social system, economy, or simply our own individuality and “what seems best to me.” There are endless ideas that one can base one’s life on. What we are saying in forming a “Rooted community” is that rooting our lives in and through the resurrected Christ is the most abundant and complete way to live.

That is, in fact, what holy Scripture tells us in saying that, “in Christ the whole fullness of God dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him...” In other words, in Christ we have received and been filled with the very fullness of God! And this is not just some promise that we hope to experience in the future when Christ returns with the new heavens and the new earth - it is to be our fundamental experience of the Christian life here and now as God continues to lavish His powerful grace, and forgiveness, and mercy, and love and endurance and spiritual enabling upon us. The life we live today is meant to be a representation of the resurrection victory of Christ and a foretaste of what is to come when heaven and earth meet in the New Jerusalem.

As a result, we have no need to “add anything” to Christ, for what can you add to “the fullness of God?” The Holy SPirit of God, who is the Spirit of the Lord, lives in and through us making us full and complete in order that we might experience the life that God always intended us to experience with Him and with each other. We lack nothing in Him! Therefore, we aim to live into this fullness, “Rooted and built up in Him,” enjoying God, Proclaiming Christ, Worshipping in the Spirit and loving radically. Amen.

Rooted in Christ. Filled with His Fullness.

The Will of God

The Will of God.

What is more important for a Christian than to live into the good will of God? We strive and aim to please God – not man. But how do we know the will of God? This is not simply a matter of discernment it is also a matter of Scripture. We do not know God’s will because we are often out of touch with God’s Word or out of tune with God’s voice. God does not hide His good purposes from us!

Listen to what the Apostle Paul says concerning the will of God in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” According to Paul God’s will for us is quite clear. First, we are to live joy-filled lives. To rejoice always means to cling to the joy of God and the joy of our salvation in the good times and the bad times. Joy in any situation is evidence of A Spirit-filled life and a clear marker of a fruitful disciple. This joy is not something we can manipulate or produce in our own state – like everything else it is a gift from God in Christ Jesus our Lord. May we then Rejoice Always for God is at work to make all things good for them that love Him!

Second, we are to “pray without ceasing.” We are to live in constant communication and openness to God by His Spirit. Or, as Brother Lawrence has put it, we are to “Practice the Presence of God.” This practice is not like the practice of an athlete for an important match, but like the ongoing practice of a doctor who cares for the sick or a Lawyer who defends the defenseless. In the same way, we are to live each day in ongoing, intimate relationship with God the father, at work in Jesus Christ, through the transforming presence of His Holy Spirit. God wants us to listen to Him and speak with Him through every aspect of our lives not just the so-called “sacred” spaces of life. God is to be found and discovered even in the mundane and ordinary. There is no-where we can go from the Presence of the Lord – He wants to lead us and guide us into His good will in and through all things. May God help us then to practice the Presence of God by praying without ceasing.

Finally, we are to “give thanks in all circumstances.” If there is one word that ought to describe the heart and attitude of a Christian it must be “thankful.” There is no room for pride, or arrogance, or selfish ambition in the Christian life - Ours is a life of humility, servanthood and sacrificial love for one another. As we consider the great cost that Jesus willingly endured for us upon the cross our hearts ought always to overflow with thankfulness no matter what the circumstance. In this way we are bold to proclaim that God is love and His love conquers all things: “In all things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39). The love of God compels us to give thanks in all circumstances for we know that if he is for us who then can be against us? May we then live thankfully in all circumstances and so live into the revealed will of God for us. God help us. Amen.
